Freedor swings into action

According to Fireco, its Freedor is the new, ergonomic solution for holding fire doors open safely and legally while enabling improved access. It is a wireless device that is installed at the top of a fire door, allowing the door to swing freely, to be left in any position, but closing the door when the fire alarm sounds. It listens for a fire alarm that exceeds 65dBA, verifying the alarm over a 14 second period, before releasing the fire door to prevent the spread of fire and smoke around the building.

Flying start for new qualifications

The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) has revealed that over 200 learners are now registered for its new facilities management qualifications and that the first awards have already been made. Since they were launched in March 2010, the BIFM’s FM qualifications, at levels 4, 5 and 6 in the UK’s Qualifications and Credit Framework, have been well-received according to the Institute.

Facilities management provider SGP Property & Facilities Management has announced the launch of its on-line technology solution for managing clients’ service charge exposure. According to the company, the system is the latest in a long line of process improvement tools that have been developed in collaboration with its clients, including the maintenance management system www.fixmypub.com and a supplier accreditation system. The SGP team manages over £100m of service charge on behalf of clients.
